The only reason Canadians are in this election two years early is because our broken voting system can reward a party earning only 39% of the vote with 100% of the power.

In June 2021, you won a victory in Parliament—a next step on Canada's path to ditch first-past-the-post.

motion was passed in Parliament by the Procedures and House Affairs Committee (PROC) to study a National Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform. It passed with only the Conservatives voting against (they expressed opposition to a Liberal amendment—accepted by the other parties—to write a second, additional report on what could be learned about citizens’ assemblies in general).

A National Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform would be a game-changer for electoral reform in Canada.

With this snap election, the vote we just won has evaporated. The next Parliament will NOT be bound by what the committee decided.

That means we need to act together now to get candidates from all parties to commit to continuing the work!

Some parties—like the NDP and Greens—have already taken a strong position in their party platform. But others have not.

We’re asking the local candidates to NOT ONLY tell us where they stand.

We’re asking the candidates whose party platforms are silent to ask their own party to put a commitment to work on a National Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform in their platform!

Before election day, we’ll share with you which candidates we heard from, and what they said.

Please send a letter to your local candidates now.

**This action is targeted to about 25 swing ridings. If you cannot find your riding using the search box, we are sorry, but your riding is not included. There are other ways you can help, such as asking about electoral reform at your local debates or volunteering to organize or deliver door hangers.

Ask your candidates

Send your candidates a letter below with a link to a survey. The survey asks them:

a) their personal and party commitment to electoral reform

b) if they belong to a party whose platform is silent on this issue, will they email their party and ask the party to add it to the party's platform

Fair Vote Canada will send out the responses we get from candidates to supporters in your riding.

*If a candidate does not show up on the list for your riding, it's because at the time we set this up, there was no confirmed candidate or we could not find their candidate email address. Please feel free to send it to us if you have it.
